Late accretion of Ceres-like asteroids and their implantation into the outer main belt

چکیده
Low-albedo asteroids preserve a record of the primordial solar system planetesimals and conditions in which nebula was active. However, origin evolution these are not well-constrained. Here we measured visible near-infrared (0.5 - 4.0 microns) spectra low-albedo mid-outer main belt. We show that numerous large (d > 100 km) dark (geometric albedo < 0.09) exterior to dwarf planet Ceres' orbit share same spectral features, presumably compositions, as Ceres. also developed thermal model demonstrates Ceres-like have highly-porous interiors, accreted relatively late at 1.5 3.5 Myr after formation calcium-aluminum-rich inclusions, experienced maximum interior temperatures 900 K. localized confined heliocentric region between 3.0 3.4 au but were likely implanted from more distant regions during giant planet's dynamical instability.

Two new basaltic asteroids in the Outer Main Belt
Aims. The identification of other basaltic objects in the asteroid belt is mandatory to explain the diversity in the collection of basaltic meteorites. This diversity requires more than one differentiated parent body, a fact that is consistent with the diversity of differentiated parent bodies implied by the iron meteorites. Methods. Based on a list of previously identified candidate basaltic (...
متن کاملActive Asteroids: Mystery in the Main Belt
Classically, comets from the outer solar system (beyond the orbit of Neptune), are expected to be icy, and thus active near the Sun, while asteroids in the inner solar system (interior to the orbit of Jupiter) are expected to be relatively ice-deficient, and thus inert. Studies of anomalous objects, most recently 133P/Elst-Pizarro, challenge this classical picture, however, and suggest that eit...
متن کاملPolarimetric survey of main-belt asteroids⋆
Aims. We present the first results of a polarimetric survey of main-belt asteroids at Complejo Astronómico El Leoncito (Casleo), San Juan, Argentina. The aims of this survey are to increase the database of asteroid polarimetry, to estimate diversity in polarimetric properties of asteroids that belong to different taxonomic classes, and to search for objects that exhibit anomalous polarimetric p...
متن کاملThe Orbital and Absolute Magnitude Distributions of Main Belt Asteroids
We have developed a model-independent analytical method for debiasing the fourdimensional (a, e, i,H) distribution obtained in any asteroid observation program and have applied the technique to results obtained with the 0.9m Spacewatch Telescope. From 1992 to 1995 Spacewatch observed ∼ 3740 deg2 near the ecliptic and made observations of more than 60,000 asteroids to a limiting magnitude of V∼2...
متن کاملOuter Irregular Satellites of the Planets and Their Relationship with Asteroids, Comets and Kuiper Belt Objects
Outer satellites of the planets have distant, eccentric orbits that can be highly inclined or even retrograde relative to the equatorial planes of their planets. These irregular orbits cannot have formed by circumplanetary accretion and are likely products of early capture from heliocentric orbit. The irregular satellites may be the only small bodies remaining which are still relatively near th...
